City of Cleveland - Urban Garden District Zoning

The City of Cleveland adopted legislation that created a new zoning district specifically for urban agriculture and related uses.

City of Cleveland - Urban Agriculture Overlay District DRAFT

The Urban Agriculture Overlay District was introduced to Cleveland City Council as a measure that would allow for more intensive uses of urban agriculture in certain areas designated by the city.  The legislation is currrently pending before Cleveland City Council.

City of Cleveland - Agriculture in Residential Districts

The City of Cleveland adopted amendments to the zoning regulations for residential districts that permit farm stands, different design guidelines for fencing, and allow agriculture as a principal use on vacant lots.

Highlights of the Mow Goats Pilot Project in Cleveland

“Mow Goats” is a pilot project sponsored by the Stockyard, Clark-Fulton and Brooklyn Centre Community Development Office to identify a new environmentally sustainable and community-building alternative to city mowing using a herd of goats.  This summary includes highlights from the pilot project that was implemented in June 2012 on several lots in Cleveland's Stockyards neighborhood.

Ohio EPA: Urban Agriculture, Composting and Zoning: A zoning code model for promoting composting and organic waste diversion

 “Urban Agriculture, Composting and Zoning: A zoning code model for promoting composting and organic waste diversion through sustainable urban agriculture” is a report and guidance document issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to assist municipalities, zoning and planning departments, departments of health and community garden associations in developing polciies that can support composting and gardening in local communities.

FPC Shares Recommendations on Urban Soils with Congresswoman Fudge for 2012 Farm Bill

Members of the FPC shared recommendations with Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, member of the House Agriculture Committee and her staff at a Farm Bill 2012 Roundtable on May 23rd in Geauga County.   Ideas about how to support urban agriculture through healthy soils and farmers' markets were presented.  Here are the recommendations for creating healthy soils for urban agriculture and the role USDA and the Farm Bill can play in supporting these efforts.
