School Wellness Policies Proposed by First Lady & USDA around marketing to children

Back when the USDA Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act was enacted in 2010, school districts were mandated to create local wellness policies to address nutrition education and physical activity standards. Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Detroit Public Schools Explore Opportunities to Purchase More Local Produce

Congratulations to South Euclid School District, 2014 USDA F2S Grant recipients!

Yesterday, the USDA shared a press release detailing the recipients of the 2014 Farm to School grants provided to districts across the US. In Cuyahoga County, South Euclid recieved a large implementation grant that will help them build on their current efforts to source locally grown food for their students' meals. Last year, Cleveland Metropolitan School District received the Farm to School grant from USDA for a planning grant that established OSUE and FPC as partners.

National Farm to School Census-see where Ohio Stands

In the final days of National Farm to School month during October, USDA released a nation-wide census of farm to school activity between 2011-2012. Since 2013 when the data collection process began, 8,800 school districts of the 13,914 targeted for responses replied to the census questionnaire and 3,812 of those district reported engaging in farm to school activities.
