Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Among Urban Gardeners in Cleveland

This presentation shares the results of a survey conducted by Dr. Punam Ohri-Vachaspati and Marisa Warrix of Ohio State Universoty Extension, Cuyahoga County in 1999-2000 of community gardeners in Cleveland.  Their research idenitifes the socio-economic background of Cleveland's community gardeners, fruit and vegetable consumption patterns among these residents, and common methods used for preparing fresh produce.

Defining and Analyzing a Food Desert by CSU Student Monique Russell

Cleveland State University student, Monique Russell, and Dr. Brian Mikelbank of CSU's Levin College of Urban Affairs recently completed a revised anaylsis of food access in Cuyahoga County that includes food pantries, urban gardens, and farmers markets and a measure of access using network analysis instead of straight line distance.

Retail Food Gaps and Opportunities in Cuyahoga County

Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, Cuyahoga County Board of Health, OSU Extension, and the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition worked in partnership to develop an updated assessment of the food retail environment in Cuyahoga County.  Building off of the food retail assessment led by County Planning Commission in 2008, this presentation released in December 2011 contains several maps that demonstrate potential relationships between poverty and income, transportation access and car ownership, and food retail locations.... Read more »

Food Distribution in Ohio: The Missing Link - Dr. Shoshanah Inwood

Dr. Shoshanah Inwood from The Ohio State University Center for Farmland Policy Innovation's presentation to the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition's community forum on July 20, 2011 on the findings from their recent report, 'Scaling-up Connections between Regional Ohio Specialty Crop Producers and Local Markets: Distribution as the Missing Link'.  The full report will be available in Fall 2011.

Integrating Food Assistance Programs at Farmers Markets in Ohio

Accepting EBT at Ohio Farmers Markets

Christie Welch, of The Ohio State University South Centers in Piketon, has worked with farmers' markets throughout the state to develop the infrastructure and processes to accept the Ohio Direction Card or EBT at their markets.  This presentation provides information on the basics for accepting EBT at farmers' markets in Ohio.  Orginally presented at the EBT at Farmers' Market Workshop at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health on February 25, 2011.
